Onto legit headcannons:
-Bucky picked up some basic French during his time with the Howling Commandos. He’s planning on learning more
-Bucky is bi, but is kinda in the closet about it because
A) Homosexuality was not only frowned upon, but it was illegal in the 30s and 40s and
B) Towards the end of boot camp, he saw pretty much the entire barracks go into complete chaos when it was discovered that one of the men was “a fag”. Everyone else but him attacked the poor guy for a good two or three minutes before officers arrived and broke it up. The man was sent to prison, and Bucky heard rumors that he was hanged. Afterwards, he had to pretend that he “didn’t want to touch a fag” so that the camp wouldn’t turn on him for joining the crowd. He didn’t tell Steve, but he did make sure to flaunt his success with the ladies while in the Army.
-He views Steve as a brother
-He is a not-quite-supersoldier: when he was a HYDRA POW/guinea pig, he was used for testing their own supersoldier serum prototypes. Fortunately, he was given a batch that was going for some of the effects with no side effects, instead of ones that tried to get everything without giving a damn if the subject died. He pretty much got everything Steve got without visible changes to his body, and a little less super strength.
-He lost his arm when he fell from the train: it didn’t have to be amputated or anything, it had just been ripped clean off in the fall. Its also still MIA.
-Bucky had a sister, but they were separated through the after their parents died (Rebecca was taken in by family members and Bucky wasn’t, so he wound up living with an elderly neighbor). The night before they were separated, they both promised that they would learn which stars are which, so they could always have something in common if they ever found each other again (they never did). ***This headcannon is an alteration of what I could find about Bucky in the comics. I didn’t want to take away the fact that he was adopted, but he couldn’t have the same story without being a kid on an army base, so the elderly neighbor replaces the base Bucky and Steve met through Bucky kicking the crap out of a bully defending Steve not long after he and Rebecca were separated.**
